Town of Nokia
Yes, this is the town where the mighty Nokia Corporation was born. Located 15 kilometres west of the city of Tampere, Nokia lies on the banks of the Nokia River in the region of Pirkanmaa. Today, Nokia is still an industrial town with pulp and paper, rubber (how Nokia Corp got started!), textile, flooring and metals as its primary industry. The town has a population of 31,362.
The town is surrounded by magnificent lakes, rivers and countryside. Enjoy the outdoors throughout the conference and think about taking advantage of the waters by taking a boat cruise across Lake Pyhäjärvi to city of Tampere, to the historical town of Hämeenlinna or along Lake Kulovesi to the small town of Vammala. Or, if the weather permits, the 18+9 hole Nokia River Golf course invites you to wander through the beautiful Taivalkunta scenery.

City of Tampere
Tampere is the third largest city in Finland and most populous inland city of all of the Nordic countries. Located between two lakes, Näsijarvi and Pyhäjärvi with the Tammerkoski rapids running through, Tampere is a beautiful city with plenty to discover.
Take in the red-brick industrial heritage of the city by strolling through the downtown area for shopping, entertainment and fine food. The city is well designed so it is easy to get around by foot but if you’re looking for a spectacular view of the two lakes, take a bus up to the world’s highest ice-age ridge at Pyynikki, the Pearl of Tampere or head to the large Adventure Park bordering lake Näsi to go up the Näsinneula Tower.
With the conference being in September, you’ll hopefully get to enjoy the beautiful fall colours. Why not soak up the Finnish nature with a guided hiking trek in Helvetinjärvi National Park? And if that’s not your thing, you can take in the World of Tango festival happening on the weekend!
